APPROACH TO THERAPY

Dan Burkett

My approach to therapy is kind but direct, encouraging but not pressuring, and always supportive and caring. I believe you know what is and isn’t working in your life and ultimately you hold the key to unlocking the life you want to live. Therapy can help you to understand yourself better, explore how past experiences are impacting you today, break unhelpful beliefs and thinking patterns, and take meaningful steps towards change. My job is to provide support and guidance through your journey.

Grief and Loss

Grief is a natural way of healing and everyone experiences grief in their own way. It may involve processing your loss, attending to pain, accepting change, and finding hope. Although you have experienced a loss and may not feel as though you will ever be the same, healing is possible.

About Me

I am a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and hold a Masters degree in Mental Health Counselling. I have over 5 years experience working with adults and youth experiencing mood disorders, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, grief, trauma, and anger.

I use Person Centered Therapy with all my clients and depending on individual needs I use a variety of other therapeutic modalities including Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Strengths-Based Therapy. In my own personal experience and working as a therapist I know there is no one size fits all approach to therapy, and that’s why I will work with you to create a plan that is unique and personalized to you and your goals.

When I’m not working, I can typically be found out with my dog Rosie, trying to make something new in the kitchen (often unsuccessfully), and spending time with my friends and family.
